"Ceres does seem to fit her mythology very well. She is truly the Earth Mother asteroid and operates as a secondary key (after the Moon) to one's mother or mother figure. Ceres can be an excellent key to the potential for pregnancy, especially with aspects to the Sun or Moon. Ceres also symbolizes one's own nurturing potential and style and has strong ties to food and green growing things (as shown in her myths). Sometimes she very literally indicates cereal (grain). She can represent one's home or homeland, agriculture, labor and the workers as well as issues of security and safety. She has a pragmatic side and can be a key to work, but it is work for the sake of the people involved. Ceres is also sometimes prominent when health issues are in focus. She seems strongly connected to the sign Virgo, but with some Cancer threads mixed in.
Ceres is often activated in current patterns when people get pregnant, have children, or family matters are in focus. This can include cases of family "expansion" through grandchildren or a child becoming married so the in-law adds to the family.
When separative aspects (oppositions and quincunxes) are formed to Ceres in the current patterns, it can indicate giving up, separating from, or leaving a job, a home, a family, or a nurturing figure. I've seen changes of residence, a child going away to college, changes of job, health concerns, loss of a parent, and other family changes with those sorts of aspects."
